Time Will Tell

Willie and the Apple: A Love Story

One day in September, Lisa and Willie rode in a Hunter Pace at Cornell. The course was muddy and Willie was feeling a bit hyper that breezy morning, but, everything went well. Afterwards, Mrs. Corson brought them apples to eat. At first, Willie was too enamored with the nice lady taking his picture to notice that Lisa was eating an apple.

Soon, though, the smell of the apple enticed him. For Willie, you see, is a big fan of treats and apples are his most favorite food.

Because Lisa is mean, she didn't want to share her apple. If there is one thing that Willie has learned in his life, though, it's that nothing tastes quite so good as an apple that is well earned. And he believed in all his heart that he earned that apple that Lisa was eating. After all, he'd negotiated every obstacle that she'd asked him to jump. So what if he'd decided that the hay bales were going to eat him and jumped the stacks on the side instead of the middle. He'd done his job and he deserved the reward.

Willie's second-most cherished lesson in life is this...

Persistence pays off.

And just as an added bonus to this story here are two pictures of Willie showing that he still has what it takes!
